New applications mainly in Apple Store

Some of the world's largest telecommunications companies together to create a wide variety of applications that store, they say, will rival Apple and other smartphone manufacturers.

AT & T Inc., Sprint, Verizon, and other 24 companies has formed how they call the wholesale application of the Community, who Monday announced the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The store will be designed to encourage developers to create applications for mobile and online all the smart phones and operating systems, according to a written statement with the GSM (Global System for Mobile) Chamber of Commerce meeting.

The group's goal is to build an open platform.

"For customers, this means a wider choice of innovative applications and services that provide a wider range of equipment options than ever before," the group said on its Web site, this is the Internet Monday morning.

Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG Electronics are also part of the group.

The group indicated that their site may cause the application to develop a simple way, publishing and marketing, and provide a new application smartphone users faster and more wide range of options than anyone else.

"This is very exciting news for our industry, will help drive this development a range of innovative, cross-device, cross-carrier applications," Rob Conway said the GSM Association CEO.

As of now, Apple has taken control of all applications running on the official iPhone cell phone for them through the company's official online store. Users have the ability to "escape" of mobile phones, to run other applications, but most come them through Apple's store.

By creating a new platform, the wholesale application of the Community would in theory allow developers to write programs will be available in a number of smart phones, rather than only one.

At present, Apple's application must be written specically for the iPhone, so that they can not use other phones.

Many application developers have complained, Apple, and sometimes slow the approval of their working procedures, and refused for what they call arbitrary and confusing reasons.

Systems, such as Google's Android have become more open, but the project by the mobile company will become the biggest push yet to attract developers away from the official channels of third-party distributor application.

Other global companies in the group, including China Mobile, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Vodafone and Wind.

The organization says that after the merger, two companies have received more than 30 million customers.

No word how long will the application Monday to become available from the consortium. But it is expected to take some time.
