Acer Computer Sales Ranking 2nd Most

A few years ago probably still sound a foreign Acer ear. Today, Taiwanese computer makers are increasingly showing its fangs, with the second ranked in the computer market in the world.

For the first time Acer sitting in second position within a period of three months, shifting the position of rival Dell previously entrenched in these rankings.

Based report from market research firm iSuppli, sales of Acer computers reached 16.6 percent in the third quarter 2009, compared with the same quarter last year.

This percentage puts Acer market share of 13.4 percent in the third quarter of this year. Up from the same quarter last year, by 11.6 percent.

"Growth of Acer to become number two in the global PC business not only reflects the performance of its strength in the notebook segment, but also in the historic growth in Asia as a major force in the computer industry," said iSuppli analyst Matthew Wilkins.

Computer unit shipments have increased from year to year. iSuppli said, computer shipments worldwide in the third quarter of 2009 reached up to 79.9 million units.
