Issue the sun near to the earth is not true

Research and Professor of Astronomy Institute of Aeronautics and Space Agency (Lapan) Thomas Djamaluddin, chills with extreme weather rumors circulating via SMS, on behalf of Climatology Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

After yesterday BMKG contradict him, Thomas had to straighten these rumors. In his blog writings are posted today, Tuesday (04/27/2010), Thomas insisted that was not true in the month of April or middle of the sun was approaching at the point closest to the Earth.

"That information is clearly misleading," he asserted. Thomas explains, the earth's orbit around the sun is slightly elliptical cause the earth closer and farther from the sun regularly. The nearest distance between the earth to the sun which is 147 million km perhelion, occur each beginning in January. Terjauhnya distance, aphelion, at a distance of 152 million km occurs every beginning of July.

"So, the month of April there is no phenomenon of the earth to the sun distance closer. As such other information is also incorrect. If it was located at a distance of the earth nearest the sun, the radiation is not significant variations. So there's no impact whatsoever,"

Thomas guessed, there may be no responsible party associating with more hot weather occurred around March to April. "The phenomenon is more hot air temperature in most cities in Indonesia in March and April, not related to the distance of the earth to the sun," he said.

Also described by Thomas, such misleading SMS not the first time. In April last year, had been circulated SMS unclear source. It contained news that would occur in conditions where the distance of the sun to the earth getting closer and radiation would damage the skin. That is why, people asked not to wear black clothing. SMS which was nearly equal that apparently spread again in April this year, even going to mention the increase of temperature up to four degrees centigrade.

"The data on average temperatures in some cities did show two peaks around March to April and September to October. This happened because of the wind shift at the transition season," Thomas said.

As transitional season, ie March-April-May and September-Oct-November, the winds are weak and tend to be local, so there is no cooling effect. "Radiation of heat (infrared) from the heated surface is relatively not spread. Effect of urban heat more felt on this transitional season,"
